Agitation of VCSE & T against Municipal Corporation

Today (31st, July 2008) Municipal Corporation of Malegaon demolished the huts of victim women of in trade at Mosampool area at 9.30 am. They all were in sleep; The Municipal Corporation neither given any notice nor intimation about the operation. Now all the women and their children are on the footpath. They all were disturbed and frustrated, some of them were thinking about the suicide.

Mrs. Jaya informed Snehalaya about the situation in the Malegaon red light area. The staff of Snehalaya and Snehjyot rushed towards Malegaon and reached at 3.00 pm. All the women and their children were waiting for us, as soon as we entered in the area they started to gather around us and were stating the problem faced by them. After an initial meeting, all the women and staff decided to demonstrate against the Municipal Corporation. We all went to the Office of Municipal Corporation and started agitation. The Police provided the security to the Municipal Commissioner and denied us to enter in the office of Commissioner.

Some of the participants delivered the speeches and expressed their thoughts about the illegal operation of Municipal Corporation. The Commissioner sent the Vice-commissioner after three hours to discuss with the agitators about the demands. But women denied meeting and discussing with him, they demanded to discuss with Commissioner only. The agitation was continuing till 9.30 pm.

Mr. Viresh Prabhu, Add. Superintendent of Police came in front of the Municipal Commissioner's office and asked us to go away from the place. The women opposed strongly. Hence he threatened that he will apply the clauses of riots against the agitators and arrests them, if they do not give up their agitation. We showed our readiness and all of us were arrested by the police.

Mr. Prabhu heartily wants to help the agitators so did not applied any clauses of riots against us and assured to speak to Municipal Commissioner Mr. Sudhir Raut about the matter and he released us.

In the midnight we started to reconstruct the collapsed huts for women. Next day five women and some staff went to meet Municipal Commissioner, he showing him a co-operative person and assured to register the names of all women in Swarnjayanti Yojna, he ordered the concerned officer to give them BPL cards, and will prefer to give the shops to these women for alternative business. He assured that he will register all the women under the 'Aavas scheme' and will give them one room kitchen flats from the month of October 2008.

The revolution is: The Bhilati, Mosam pool red light areas is now without any brothel keeper, so they have not to pay for any bribe to brothel owner, pimp, police, or goons.
